Sweetly in my arms I held you,
never wanting to let go.
Singing softly ‘till you slept,
whispering, “God bless you, my little son.”
I cradled you so softly,
close above my heart.
I stared at you for hours
thanking God for you, my child.
I still remember clearly
when you took your baby steps.
Saying your first words
it’s a time I could never forget.
The years gone by so quickly
and you’ve grown so much since then.
Soon you’ll be going to preschool
and become more independent.
I try to hold back my tears
when I see how hard you try
to do things on your own,
it’s a pride I just can’t hide.
To you, my little son, I whisper
that my life could never be
as happy as it is today
knowing you’re a part of me.
